I have some cool Antarctic memories too!
Another very fond memory of mine with regard to moccasins is about mukluks - the lace-up boot-style moccasins used by the Inuit (or, Eskimos, as many people identify these northern people). While the mukluk of the Inuit was made from fur or reindeer hide - or even sealskin - the mukluks I wore were not that exciting! Mine were issued to me by the United States Antarctic Program during my years of work down on "the ice" as we fondly referred to Antarctica. Although our primary cold weather boots were heavy duty rubber boots we called "Bunny Boots," the white canvas, lace-up mukluks were my favorite shoe.  

So, when I was given the opportunity to talk about moccasin shoes and mukluks here on my Save On Kidswear site, I jumped at the chance to tell my story! It has truly brought back wonderful memories.

There was something - actually there still IS something about mukluks that are just so comfortable and fun. They weren't as warm as the bunny boots, but they were quite flexible. I loved how they laced up below my knee (in the Amazon carousel below, I think I added some lace-up moccasins - if you don't see them, you can simply click on any of the others, and then search Amazon for "lace up moccasins").

I have been looking through my photos for some pictures of me in the mukluks, but haven't found any. Back then, the internet scarcely existed, so who would have thought I'd be writing about mukluks some 20+ years later! :) Hmmm... I think I'm due for a new pair!
